A little background about this coffee table - My aunt found it for me at an antique market before I had even moved into my own apartment. We have similar style and I trust her opinion, so when she texted me that she had found the perfect coffee table, I didn't hesitate to say 'grab it'! It is a little sentimental to me as it was literally the first thing I had before I was out on my own. It was already 'made over' with a black glossy top and pretty pale blue legs which has come to be a signature color in my home design. I lived with is like this and it has moved with me from our apartment to our first house!
You can see that it's been loved. There have been many dinners eaten on it, craft projects created, nails painted and memories made on this coffee table. The paint was chipping off the top and it was in need of a refresh.
I had some leftover black paint from other projects around the house and decided to get going on this quick and easy project. Before repainting it, I gave it a quick light sand. If you know me, than you know I have the patience of a flea (that's what my husband says! haha). So I was not willing to wait for him to get home from work to help me move this thing outside, and it was too heavy to lift alone - perk of a quality antique piece! So I decided to sand it inside. Do not try this at home - learn from me! I have been dusting sanding particles off of other furniture for a week! None the less, I sanded down to the raw wood to discover a really cool pattern underneath all of that paint. Unfortunately, the wood wasn't in the best condition and I had too many competing wood tones in the room to consider staining it - so paint it is!
My favorite Black paint color is Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black. It's the perfect soft black, not too stark, slight blue undertones, really a beautiful color! A few coats on the top was all this baby needed to look brand new.
I did seal it with a few coats of Polyacrylic by using a foam roller quickly across the top, giving it a light sand between coats.
